How to write a prompt for an AI image

An image prompt describes the frame: the main subject, the place, the light and the style. Write three clear sentences, about 30 to 80 words. Put on-picture text in quotes and keep it short. Models understand English prompts best, and a ready prompt from the library opens in the Photo section with one button.

Structure

  1. Main subject

What is at the center of the frame and what happens to it. One main idea.

  2. Scene and light

Background, time of day, light. For an ad, leave room for the text.

  3. Text in quotes

Put the on-picture text in quotes and keep it short. Long lines usually come out distorted.

What not to write

  • A list of twenty adjectives: the model takes two or three and ignores the rest.
  • Opposite requirements, such as minimal and crowded background.
  • A brand or magazine name that is not yours.

Frequently asked questions

Which language should the image prompt be in?

Models understand English best. On-picture text can be in any language if it is in quotes.

Why did the model not draw the object I wanted?

The object was probably described vaguely or placed among other things. Put it first in the text and describe it briefly.

What do I do with a ready prompt from the library?

Replace the name, colors and text with your own. The Repeat button opens the Photo section with that prompt.

How long should an image prompt be?

Usually 30 to 80 words is enough. Longer prompts make the model lose details in the middle.

Do I need an artist's name in the prompt?

Not necessarily. An artist's name often gives an unpredictable result. Describe the light, color and composition in words instead.
